Longtime harness racing industry participant Ronald (Monty) Males of Trenton, Ont. passed away peacefully in his 84th year on July 15, 2022.

Ron tenaciously worked for 40 years with his Father-In-Law, Donald Farrow, doing plastering and building. In 1972 he purchased his first Standardbred racehorse and enjoyed this as a hobby. Then, in 1974 he started farming and spent five years as a Brighton Township Councillor, later spending time in Florida and Kentucky training and racing horses.

Along with his wife Donna, Ron owned and operated The Village Coin Laundry in Lexington, Ky., where they got to meet many great participants during Grand Circuit at the Red Mile and Keeneland.  He had a thrill driving in a fair race at the Kentucky Horse Park.

Monty was handy and always there to lend a hand to help anyone in need. Anyone who knew him quickly recognized his love of animals, quick wit and sense of humour.

Loving husband of Donna (Farrow) for 62 years and father of Cheryl Spence (Edgar) and predeceased by his son Bradley. Grandfather of Rachel and Zachary Spence, James (Krystal) Agnew and C. Brad Males and Great Grandfather of six.

As per Monty's wishes, there will be no funeral service. The family would like to thank the team at Trenton Memorial Hospital Palliative Care.

If you wish to make a donation in his memory, please make it to your local Humane Society or, as Monty had said, you can make it out to his loving wife, "who put up with me for 62 years!"

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Ron Males.
