Officials with Pompano Park have announced the details for the Isle International Amateur Series, which will take place at the Florida raceway on March 12 and 13, 2016.

There will be in excess of $5,000 to be donated to the charities of the top three drivers. There will be six total races.

The series will consist of drivers representing nine European countries, one representative from New Zealand representative and one US rep.

Drivers from the United States that wish to be eligible will be required to pay in $200 prior to November 15, 2015. Any drivers paying after November 15 will be required to pay $300.

The US representative will be determined by the FADC series point leader prior to February 14, 2016. The point and eligibility series schedule will run from October 4, 2015 through February 14, 2016.

The races will be the regular FADC races held at Pompano. Currently, Pompano Park has scheduled weekly $5,000 claiming and $7,500 claiming races. Points also will be awarded for Event #18 late closer series scheduled for Saturday, December 19, Saturday December 26, and final Saturday, January 2, 2016. The estimated purse is $12,000. Please see the Pompano website for the late closer nomination form.

Drivers that race, but that do not pay a nomination fee will not receive points. Drivers will utilize their best 12 drives to determine their point total. In the event of a point tie, the US representative will be determined by the driver with the highest UDR of the eligibility series. For example, a driver that has made 12 starts and has recorded 12 wins would have priority over driver with 15 starts and 12 wins.

Points will be awarded by the following formula:

1st Place = (S+5)
2nd Place = (S)
3rd Place = (S-2)
4th Place = (S-3)
5th Place = (S-4)
6th Place = (S-5)
7th Place = (S-6)
8th Place = (S-7)
9th Place = (S-8), etc.

The eligibility payment cutoff date is December 21, 2015. Payments will be made to The Florida Amateur Driving Club. The funds will be used to help pay for the international guests’ accommodations and expenses.

In terms of the eligibility of drivers, all US drivers will be required to be a member in good standing with the FADC, FSBOA and a USTA recognized amateur driving club. Drivers must have a minimum of a USTA ‘P’ or Canadian ‘D’ Licence. Pompano and FADC reserve the right to reject any driver nomination for safety concerns.

I wish we had an amateur driving club at the various tracks here in Ontario. I have an aunt and uncle in the business and I have always wanted to be in it myself and thought this would have been a good way to get involved. Hopefully to increase interest in harness racing and give opportunity to people that won't get it otherwise we will see amateur driving clubs pop up in the future. I need one here in Sarnia ... please ....
