Gordon Delaney Passes

Longtime standardbred horse owner and trainer Gord Delaney of Erin, Ont., passed away peacefully at Guelph General Hospital on Thursday, July 26 at the age of 79.

Gord was Past President of the Erin Agricultural Society and former partner of Delaney-Martin Farm Equipment in Erin. His standardbreds raced with the Delcrest farm name, producing trotters such as 2011 Ontario Sires Stakes standout Delcrest Julian as well as SB Fuchsias Cancan.

Beloved husband of Joanne Charter for 55 years. Loving father of Steve Delaney and wife Joan of Erin, Karen Delaney-Laupacis and husband Andreas of Toronto, Susan Brady and husband Andrew of Fergus, Christine Tofflemire and husband Kirk of Ariss. Cherished grandpa of Allison, Jessica, Marin, Megan, Dylan, Alexandra, Jeffrey, Jenna, Zac and Luc. Dear brother of Doug Delaney and his wife Betty of Erin. Predeceased by his parents Jim and Mildred Delaney. Gord will be sadly missed by his extended family and friends.

Resting at the Butcher Family Funeral Home, 5399 Main St. S., Erin where the Funeral Service will take place on Monday, July 30, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation on Sunday from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Interment at Erin Union Cemetery. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Erin Agricultural Society would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
