Trot Insider has learned that Standardbred owner and horseman Roger Hie of Cobourg, Ont. has passed away this morning (Monday, April 21) at the age of 66.

From racing homebred Bye Bye Roannie in the first year of the Ontario Sires Stakes in 1974 to trucking homebred Hi Edith form Rideau Carleton to Windsor Raceway for OSS events in 2007, Roger was there. He also campaigned favourites like Candy Mint, Georgina Isle, Johnny Paycheque and Hieway Kid over the course of his long career.

Like his father Cliff, Roger was your friend for life. Companion and partner of Miriam Riley. Father of Dr. Scott and Susan Hie. Brother of Carman Hie, Doug Hie and Reg McBride. Poppa to Jayden and Jensen. Remembered fondly by the extended Riley families.

A celebration of life for Roger Hie will be held on Sunday, May 18 at the family farm, 8664 Danforth Rd. W., Cobourg, Ont., from 12:00 p.m. until "the cows come home."

R.i.p- roger --as a trainer who race against the hie family -then as race secretary--one thing remained constant--Roger's demeanor--cheerful--easy going --and loved to race--he truly was a secretarys delight--not once did he ever come to the office and complain about post positions or what race he was in--he awways bought a smile to our faces.

Roger always made everyone feel --valued, important. He always seemed to have time for everyone. The horse world, and everyone -- who has been touched by Roger has lost an icon. May you rest in peace. Patti Priestman
