Northlands Park Race Secretary Jason Teague has gone on the record as saying that some of the Edmonton track's top horsemen have thrown their support behind the eight-day live standardbred mini meet which will kick off tonight

.

“They all know how important this couple of weeks can be as we try to draw attention back to the sport,” Teague was quoted as saying in an article by the Edmonton Sun. “They’re stepping up as much as they can.”

Gerry Hudon, Brent Grundy, John Chappell, Kelly Hoerdt, J.F. Gagne, John Chappell and Keith Clark are just some of the track's top horsemen which are looking to make the compact meet a success with the wagering public.

In a very positive move for its loyal customers, Northlands Park announced early this week that the meet will kick off tonight with a $25,000 guaranteed Pick-6. “To me, that amount of money is a headline in itself,” track announcer Sugar Doyle was quoted as saying.

The meet will run through the end of February and cards of live racing will take place on Fridays and Saturdays.

The 25k guarantee certainly is risky and gutsy. Hard to hit bets at small tracks with a big guarantee really need some momo, in my opinion.

I'll be playing it and I hope others do too, though.

All of the efforts by Northlands are certainly appreciated by the sbred horsemen. Free programs on line, the introduction of the 25,000 guaranteed Pick 6, and the additional 8 race dates in February show that Northlands is doing its part to try and help out the industry. We need to do our part in bringing new people to the track to see what our game is all about.
