Kentucky Futurity, Filly Futurity Set

Twelve three-year-old male trotters will contest the $450,000 Kentucky Futurity, which will be the centrepiece of the Red Mile’s program of racing this coming Sunday (Oct. 6) in Lexington, Kentucky.

The field of 12 is fronted by Greenshoe, who is coming into the race off of a 1:49.4, under-wraps win in his division of the Bluegrass Stakes. The Father Patrick colt recently surpassed $1 million in earnings for owners Courant Inc., Hans Backe, Lars Granqvist and Morten Langli.

Greenshoe leads a Melander trio into the trotting triple crown classic, as stablemates Gimpanzee and Green Manalishi S will also be taking their best shot.

The draw for the 54th Kentucky Filly Futurity has also taken place. A total of 11 fillies were entered. Hambletonian Oaks winner When Dovescry will be in action, as will Millies Posession.

I believe the pacing mare division of The Allerage is the first race for mares in harness racing history in which every horse entered has gone a mile in 1:50 flat or faster. 10 years from now, that might be true of the trotting mare division as well!
