Hugh 'Andy' Grant Jr. Passes

Hugh A. 'Andy' Grant Jr., 68, a member of harness racing’s Living Hall of Fame and former president and CEO of the Hambletonian Society, passed away during the evening hours of Wednesday, January 25

.

Grant’s name was associated with many of the sport’s top stars of years gone by, either having had their stud careers managed by Grant’s Bradford Bloodstock agency, or having been owned by his father, Hugh Grant Sr.

Grant syndicated such outstanding stallions as Bonefish, Tyler B, Florida Pro and Speed In Action, and he campaigned such stars as the Breeders Crown winner Cheery Hello, the Hambletonian Oaks winner Dance Spell, Tarport Hap, Walton Hanover, Conch, Prakas and Kris Messenger, in addition to the aforementioned Tyler B and Speed In Action.
In addition to his other interests in the sport, Grant also served as a director of the U.S. Trotting Association, representing downstate New York, from 1980 through 1985.

He was a former member of the New York Stock Exchange and attended Georgetown University, and while a college student he secured a USTA driver license and got up behind such starts as Meadow Skipper and Countess Adios, owned by his father.

Hugh Grant Jr. was enshrined in the Living Hall of Fame in 1992.
