Fans came out to Harrah's Chester Racetrack in droves on Sunday for the chance to meet Hervé Filion, the winningest driver in North American harness racing and a mainstay on the old Brandywine-Liberty Bell circuit – and they were certainly in for a treat.
Filion drove in the first race on Sunday's 13-race card, aboard the Lou Peña-trained Lightning Elvis ($3.80).
After floating into the first turn and working his way to the front, there was no looking back, stealing a :57.2 first half before a powerful :26.4 third quarter in which Lightning Elvis turned away the first over Native Art. Through the far turn, Lightning Elvis started to pull clear, eventually winning by 3-1/4 lengths in 1:52.1.
The victory gives Filion 15,180 lifetime wins, and it added to his $88 million in lifetime earnings.
