Maiden To Be Broken In Port Perry?

Published: September 4, 2009 04:43 pm EDT

Some handicappers may look at the Sunday, September 6 entries at the Port Perry Fair and think they have a good angle: an experienced trainer in Mike Wade; pedigree with CR Renegade; and experience with a seven-year-old mare. There's one piece of that equation which simply will not compute

.

Rapids, the mare in question, is all ready to contest the scheduled third race on the six-dash docket from the Port Perry Fair.

It may not be the mare's outside Post 6 starting spot which will eventually be deemed the major disadvantage in the handicapping puzzle. It may, though, be the fact that the mare has yet to make a pari-mutuel start in her career.

The mare recorded its first and only charted line -- albeit a qualifier -- in a mile at Kawartha Downs in mid-August of this year.

Though Rapids is set to tackle some elder foes, those combatants are battle-tested.

Will Rapids come through with the unexpected?
