Despite a few showers, and a competing Apple Festival, turnout was strong for Day 2 of the Lakeshore Horse Racing Association’s meet at Leamington Raceway.
Close to 1,000 fans enjoyed live racing, draw prizes, a meet-and-greet area with two retired standardbreds and a petting zoo complete with miniature horse rides for children.
Taylor Fritz was also on hand once again to act as Parade Marshall with retired standardbred Wesgate Son.
On the track, Mark Williams won five of the 10 races, including the opening dash with Mcrileymac for trainer and owner Ellie Mayhew of Windsor, and the closing race with Royal Sir for trainer Keith Cullen and owner James Morency of Windsor.
Royal Sir, who was a wire-to-wire winner, recorded the fastest mile of the day (1:58) after having cut the fractions in :29.3, :58.2 and 1:28.
Overall, the 10-race card offered $10,000 in purses. More than $20,000 was wagered on the program of racing.

Live racing returns to Leamington on Sunday, October 6 with plenty more action. The ‘Riders under Saddle,’ and ‘So you think you can Drive’ will be on hand, courtesy of the Ontario Harness Horse Association.
Once again, fans that attend will have a chance to enter for daily prize draws, and one lucky fan will win a 50-inch high definition Television, courtesy of Ernie’s TV in Kingsville.
First-race post time at the Leamington Fairgrounds is 1:00 p.m.

Thanks to all for your support and kind words. We have finally put some smiles back where they belong. Only two Sundays left, come on down, catch up with some old friends and spend the day with us. We'll do our best to make it a fun one for you.

Good for you Mr. Yamakva I do not think you will be disappointed as they race like they're at Mohawk instead of Leamington and put on a first class show.Hope to see you there and get to meet you. I'll be sitting on the bleachers behind the snack bar.

I would like to add to the last comment made by Chris about feeling appreciated. I don't know if it can be overstated the importance of making someone feel appreciated. We did not put a horse in to go this past Sunday, but just the same I received a call from management asking if the prior week was a good experience... calling to let us know they appreciated our bringing horses the week prior. No wonder people like racing at Hanover(same management at both tracks presently). I intend to enter this coming Sunday even though it is a 2hr drive and the little horse I have will do well to cover the gas money. I, like Chris want to congratulate all involved for putting on a good show and making people feel comfortable. All the best.

things are starting out low in Leamington, but can only work there way up. This is a great start, and the fact the fans came back, shows the racing in Ontario, has hope. I plan on taking in a card if my work allows me.

Congratulations to all those involved for putting on the best show possible under the circumstances. Great crowd, good food reasonably priced and served fast. Lots for the kids to experience with the pony rides, face painting and small petting zoo. And of course Marty's expert and sometimes humorous race call and handicapping-well not so much the handicapping. A great place to relax, be close up, and feel appreciated. Good luck.
