Trot Insider has learned that three-year-old trotting gelding Pointe To Pointe, a former Ontario Sires Stakes Gold champion, was euthanized
on Friday, August 13 after sustaining a pasture injury.
The son of Mutineer-Garland Bonita, a half-brother to OSS Super Final winner Pointe Of Honour ($293,502) and Abbey Craig ($225,757), was purchased for $8,000 at the Forest City Sale as a yearling by the Henry Stable of Arthur and Jeffrey Thomson of Chesley, ON.
Trained and driven by Wayne Henry, Pointe To Pointe kicked off his career with a victory in the Bud Light Stakes at Flamboro Downs before competing exclusively in the Ontario Sires Stakes program for the rest of his freshman campaign. He swept his second Gold elimination and final at Flamboro on Confederation Cup Day 2009, lowering the track record for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings to 1:58.3 and establishing a Canadian record for a half-mile track in the process. At three, he won two times in Grassroots action leaving him with a career record of 5-1-4 in 19 starts. His earnings total $168,307, making him the richest son of Mutineer.
"The stable and the other owners were quite devastated," said Shelley Henry. "He had given us a lot of good times and excitement. He may not have been a world champion but he was in our eyes."
