Chantal Sutherland Takes Racing's Plight To Late Night

Published: July 27, 2012 09:55 am EDT

After making her heartfelt plea to save Ontario's horse racing industry last week, Canadian-born jockey Chantal Sutherland plans to continue her Lady Godiva-esque quest to bring attention to Ontario government's decision to end its partnership with horse racing to a different audience.

On Tuesday night, Sutherland will be appearing on Conan O'Brien's late night TV show (TBS, 11pm ET). According to sources, Sutherland hopes to discuss the situation facing Ontario's racing industry during her interview segment.

Before appearing on Conan, Sutherland will be making a rare appearance back at Woodbine Racetrack on Sunday to ride her brother Hugh Jr.'s horse Awesome Fire in the $250,000 Wonder Where Stake. Should she win, expect signs in the winner's circle like the ones pictured below. The people behind those signs: standardbred owner Marv Chantler - who races under Mardon Stables - and Sutherland's father Hugh.

These signs are being made available on a first come first serve basis. Both Chantler and Sutherland told Trot Insider that signs are up in the Caledon area now and they have had numerous requests for these signs, available as both two-sided lawn-stake type signs or one-sided wall-mounted signs with grommets.

Signs are available for pickup at Mardon Stables; RR#2, 2996 Conc 7; Loretto, ON L0G 1L0 or Sutherland's farm in Caledon.

Sorry folks but not only did the interview not include anything about racing in Ontario, they never even mentioned she is Canadian.

I took this sign this morning and turned it into an 8 1/2 x 11 LANDSCAPE photo.
I have had them laminated & I can now tape them to the inside of my back seat windows.....

Good start Raymond. I feel like we won round one welterweight against heavy weight ( minister of finance). Let's hope it doesnt go 15 rounds..He has got the other two in his corner but I noticed a cut around the eye (see the interview with Marty ) and while one is wiping off the gloves and repairing the cut the primer DAD has gotten ready to throw in the towel C.U. Could this sign be done as a magnetic sign for trucks and trailers? We could get lots of exposure on the highways as we travel about the province. Can we pay for some of these signs so that more can be made and distributed thoughout the cities where they are really needed?

Just a great idea - what a lot of exposure. Is there someone who can get them made and we will buy them at the various tracks. We race primarily at Flamboro but come from much further east than that so the time it takes to travel to Caledon is quite prohibitive.

Pyramid time. Everyone who gets a sign take it down to your local sign shop and get ten more made. Pass them out to your friends and ask them to do likewise. Stick it in your lawn or the back window of your car. Make sure you take it to the winners circle. Walk around the local mall with it a few times , hold it up at a local intersection, just make sure it gets maximum exposure.

60,000 X 10 is 600,000
600,000 X 10 is 6 million - Bingo - you have Ontario covered

Also norm talk to the public industry day. Saturday in CREEMORE there were One thousand people and I had a sign. A man from TORONTO asked about why he should support us? When he told me his grandfather was a blacksmith at Greenwood in the old days he got the message and wants a sign....TK
