One of the breakout stars of Canadian harness racing over the first part of 2011 is driver Billy Davis, Jr., who has cracked the top five in wins and already surpassed his 2010 seasonal totals before the

midway point of the year.

On today's episode of Trot Radio, Norm Borg talks to the son of O'Brien Award winning horseman Bill Davis about his season thus far and why he's having such a great year. Davis points out improvement in two key areas: horse power and confidence.

"I would show up [at the tracks], and a lot of times just drove one drive - and most of the time they were on the outside and not very live. I just kept showing up everyday and letting people know I was willing to drive."

With 182 wins, placing him in the top five in Canada, Davis' willingness to show up and drive has paid off handsomely. Davis will sit behind Mach Lady on Sunday in Clinton Raceway's $70,000 Kin Pace. The elim winner from one week ago isn't the morning line favourite but Davis and Mach Lady do have the advantage of post position over morning line choice and elim winner Wiskywisky Nancy O.

"I know that Wiskywisky Nancy O can leave pretty good but she's got the trailing post," notes Davis. "I'm hoping that I can try to make it to the front and try to dictate the pace."

Congratulations Billy, you are going great guns, keep up the good work!

I knew when you drove Silk Puddles that I owned on the West Coast in Cloverdale, B.C. that you had the talent. Congratulations and good luck in the future.

I agree with you Norm. I think we will be hearing a lot more from Billy Davis Jr. He is a very talented and determined young driver.
