Siddall: It's Not Fair

Published: May 20, 2009 09:48 am EDT

According to an article by the Windsor Star, horseman Ross Siddall -- who last week was suspended 10 years and fined $40,000 relating to Darbepoetin-alfa (DPO) -- has gone on the record as saying, "they never caught me with nothing,” and, “it's not fair.”

The article states that Siddall has retained a lawyer and plans to fight the suspension and fine. Siddall has said that one of his horses, Jojos Image, was tested for DPO in January and results were negative.

The report goes on to say that Siddall said he got caught up in the Ontario Racing Commission investigation because his name was on a two-year-old prescription for the drug written by Essex veterinarian Glenn Johnston, whose ORC licence was suspended earlier this month.

In April 2006, the ORC issued a notice advising “all Ontario racing industry licensees that severe penalties will be imposed on anyone found to have acquired, be in possession of, or administered the drug Aranesp to a horse.”

The most "interesting" comment by Mr. Sidall was "it's(dpo) used all over"!!

So how does a vet "inadvertantly" write a scrip for a non theraputic drug, know to harm horses and boost their stamina, and how did Mr. Siddall's name end up on said scrip....???
