Combining his love of harness racing and web development, Standardbred Canada’s new Web Director, Jeff Porchak is enjoying every minute of the job.

Porchak, the former Web Technician of, was promoted to the newly formed supervisory position earlier this year.

“I have moved from the IT Dept. to Industry Communications. In a nutshell, the direction of the SC website - content, function, features - will be in my court,” Porchak told Trot Insider.

Now a resident of Kitchener, Ont., Porchak, 34, comes from a family deeply rooted in harness racing - his family owns and operates Jayport Farm just north of Woodstock, Ont. Porchak graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Arts in English then earned his Webmaster’s Certification at TriOS College. He has been working
with Standardbred Canada for seven years.

“I have to thank my family for making this possible - my parents and my brother Roger for getting me hooked on racing at such a young age, and my wife Amber for being so supportive of my dedication to the job at all hours and on weekends and holidays,” said Porchak in regards to his promotion.

While working around the clock, Porchak has developed some new ideas for the SC website to be implemented later this year.

“One of the major projects that we'll be rolling out in 2009 will be additional e-commerce features. We added online TrackIT payment and the experience there has allowed us to measure how other parts of SC's core business can benefit from online transactions,” he explains. “There are other plans in the works for the website as well that are more feature-based.”

I have never had the opportunity to meet you, Mr. Porchak, but I am a huge fan of what you do for the fans of harness racing, especially the video feeds you supply on YouTube. For those of us that do not have the opportunity to watch as much Canadian racing as we would like the service is invaluable.

I must admit that I wasn't keen on the new format for the SC site but, even old dogs can learn new tricks! I've grown accustomed to the changes and can find what I'm looking for quite easily. There are a few things that need some tweaking but, overall, it's become very user friendly and informative. Well done, Jeff.

Congratulations Mr. Porchak - (formalities aside, I'll now return to 'Jeff' ;-)

I can't think of a more crucial position in Harness Racing than Communications (especially from someone who appreciates harness racing as a SPORT vs Industry)? Your history with horses and horsepeople; your loyalty and love for the SPORT; your care and concern for the people involved ... YOUR kind of Communication is exactly what the Doctor ordered!!

I'll personally enjoy watching you move us into the future - while maintaining our roots in the past. Go get 'em, Jeff!

Congratulations to Standardbred Canada. The website is the greatest in the industry. It is continuosly updated and it covers all aspects of harness racing. It is certainly my first choice for news.

The only minor complaint that I have is that after viewing a follow-up article on my iPhone and returning to the front page, I'm always returned to the top of the page rather than the spot from which I left.
