Candid Comments From Gemmill

Ray Gemmill celebrated his 80th birthday Saturday night at Fraser Downs, and Yvonne Zacharias of The Vancouver Sun was able to catch up with the popular horseman. If you didn't know all about the popular horseman before, you

sure do now.

The article shines a wealth of light on the life and career of the 80-year-old resident of Surrey, BC who is still very active in the game and is still training stock.

When asked why he is still up early in the mornings feeding and jogging horses, Gemmill offered some of the most candid comments of 2010.

"What the hell else am I going to do?" he replied. "I have got a reason to get up in the morning. I don't know how to do anything else and I'm too goddamn old to go back into construction so I'd probably eat too much and drink too much and put on a bunch of weight and take a heart attack so I might as well keep working a bit."

Quite a story, and a great piece of writing by Yvonne. They don't make much like they used to. Hats off to you Ray!
