Trot Insider has learned of the extent of driver Gerry Hudon’s injuries following Friday night’s accident at Northlands Park

.

Hudon and Gts Danielle were gapped off the gate at the start of the second race Friday when Uptown Spirit and Kevin Sampson fell to the track. Hudon was unable to avoid the fallen horse and was thrown from the sulky when his mount collided.

According to Hudon’s brother Norm, the meet’s leading trainer and driver was transported by ambulance to Royal Alexandra Hospital and tests revealed he suffered fractures to his L4 and L5 lumbar vertebrae (lower spine) as well as a concussion, pulled groin, broken ribs, bruised back and a pulled ligament in his right thumb.

Hudon is resting in hospital with his wife Monica and family at his side.

Please join Standardbred Canada in wishing Hudon a full and speedy recovery.

Good to hear Gerry is now home with his wonderful family. All the best Team Hudon!

Pretty serious crash, but guess it could have been worse. The fans and all your brothers want you to rest and get well. The 2 vertebrae scenario would seem to be the worst of it.

Take it easy and you'll be ready for spring meeting.
