Alan Kirschenbaum Memorial Fund

In Memory of Alan Kirschenbaum 1961-2012

On October 27 the standardbred racing industry lost a dear friend, gentleman and tireless supporter of the equine industry. Alan Kirshenbaum was a loving son, brother, husband, terrific father and loyal friend to so many in and out of our industry.

I've known Alan for most of his life and words cannot express the sadness his passing brings me and everyone associated with him. We will all miss his warmth, charm and quick wit. Over the past month or so I've received many calls from friends in the standardbred business from all over the country wishing me condolences. Many have asked if they could make a donation in Alan's name to a worthy cause. One that Alan would have been proud to be associated with and one who's mission is consistent with his love for horses and people in general.

I have discussed this with Alan's family and we believe that 'Heading For Home Racehorse Retraining/Adoption Center' is such a cause. Please take a minute to review the website. We believe their mission is true to Alan's beliefs. I think you will see that their unique approach to issues that face us as horse lovers along with their work with those in need of therapy ranging from autism, depression, PTSD etc. is more than worthy of our support.

It is headed by standardbred owners (all volunteers) and one, Bill Salmeri, who is a close personal friend of mine and was a close friend of Alan's. Our goal is to raise funds to build a new therapy arena and name it in Alan's memory. This arena will allow the retraining of horses and therapy sessions to continue on through the winter months in Saratoga, NY where the foundation is located.

I hope you will help make this happen by donating whatever you can to this worthy cause for a dear friend who we all miss.

George Berkner
