SC Rewind: Picture Parade

SC Rewind: Picture Parade
Published: November 25, 2023 11:05 am EST

In this week's edition of Rewind Robert Smith has assembled a group of old pictures in the monthly version of Picture Parade.  Over the years people from show business, other professional sports and other well known personalities have frequented our racetracks.  Each picture features at least one "star".  If you chose to name some or all,  good luck.

Picture Parade

#1 - This photo was taken during the filming of a movie centered around harness racing back in the 1950's.  The two co-stars appear in this photo and despite the passing of many years I believe they are both still with us.  Can you name the lady and the fellow dressed in racing silks on the right; both are pretty well known in the entertainment world.   To get a bonus point, name the movie.

Picture Parade

#2 - The gentleman on the right made a trackside appearance when this photo was taken.  Can you name both individuals?

Picture Parade

#3 - These three gents were on hand at Roosevelt Raceway in connection with the American Trotting championship event way back when. The question here is to name the fellow on the far left.  I do not have identities for the other two. He was a pretty popular comedian at one time and often appeared with a cigar in hand as he is doing in this shot. Name him if you can.

Picture Parade

#4 - In this 1975 photo the man on the right was paying a visit to Toronto's Greenwood Raceway, perhaps in a promotional role for an upcoming event.  Can you name them both?

Picture Parade

#5 - The fellow on the right was in the entertainment business for many years and perhaps liked to attend the races.  It looks like he's thinking about placing a bet and maybe needed a little advice.  Who is he?

Picture Parade

#6 - These two gents are getting together for a pretty logical reason. You might say they had something in common. Can you put a name on each one and there are no points taken off for incorrect spelling?

Picture Parade

#7 - These two guys were often seen at the track and may have been owners at one time.  This one shouldn't be too difficult.  Who are they?

Picture Parade

#8 - At least two of the three people pictured here with the horse and driver had ties to harness racing in addition to their "day jobs" which at this time was with a New York City hockey team.  Let us know who you think they are.  This was taken at Roosevelt Raceway in 1971.

Picture Parade

#9 - This picture has been shown before but let's test your memory and your identifying skills once again.  Who are these two memorable personalities pictured on the backstretch?

Picture Parade

#10 - Hollywood Park was a natural spot for famous celebrities partly because of its location.  Can you name these well known individuals from the world of stage and screen?  I think they may have been checking up on the thoroughbreds when this was taken.

Who Is It photo question

Who do we have here as a bonus photo?  He's not a movie star.

Our experts certainly showed their versatility this time around as they know a lot more than identifying harness racing folks. They know their show biz people too! Thanks for making it interesting.
Take note of # 8 - The hockey player on the far left was not identified by anyone. His name was Jack Egers and he played for the Rangers, Blues and Washington Capitals. Sadly he passed away a couple of years ago.
