Driver J.R. Plante entered Saturday afternoon’s card at Flamboro Downs needing only two victories to reach the 1,000-win plateau and the 29-year-old reinsman managed to surpass the milestone with a driving triple.

Plante scored back-to-back wins starting in the third race to reach the milestone. A pair of front-end scores aboard the Laetici Maslia-trained Supreme Action (1:59.2) and the Sue Gangell-trained Rolling On (1:56.1) provided Plante with career win numbers 999 and 1,000.

The resident of Burlington, Ont. pushed his win total beyond the special mark with one more victory in the tenth race. He guided Trey Hanover (1:58.2) wire-to-wire for trainer Ronald Mitchell.

Plante, a winner of 11 races and $57,150 so far this year, enjoyed a career season in 2009 when he recorded 338 victories and over $1.8 million in earnings.
