Alberta Sires Stakes

Sponsor: Horse Racing Alberta Breeding Improvement Program
Eligibility:

For 2 and 3-year-old pacers that are sired by a stallion registered with Alberta Standardbred Horse Association and standing in the Province of Alberta the entire year of breeding.

Foals must be nominated in their yearling year and sustaining payments must be made in their 2 and 3-year-old year to remain eligible to the Sires Stakes program.

The Alberta Sires Stakes are divided into elimination events that are noted below.

Payment Schedule:
Three-Year-Old Payments: Sustaining Fee: April 15, 2017 $100
Two-Year-Old Payments: Sustaining Fee: April 15, 2017 $100
Yearling Payments: Nomination Fee: April 15, 2017 $25
Late Nomination Fee: October 15, 2017 $250
Starting Fee: $300 due at time of declaration
Fee Notes: Make nomination fee payable and mailed to Standardbred Canada.
Payments can be made through SC Stakes Online by clicking here or by mail.
Envelopes must be clearly post-marked on or before the due date to be accepted.
If the due date falls on a weekend or statutory holiday, envelopes may be post-marked the next business day.

Conditions:

ALBERTA SIRES STAKES GENERAL CONDITIONS:
1. Two-year-old races may be raced in (a) elimination and a final or (b) divisions, and a Super Final or Super Final Consolation.
2. Three year-old races may be raced in either (a) elimination and a final or (b) final only, and Super Final, or Super Final Consolation.
3. Races for 2 and 3-year-olds conducted on a 5/8s or 11/16ths mile track are subject to the following conditions:
(a) If nine (9) horses or less declare to start the race shall be conducted as a final only. All declaration fees will be added to the final purse.
(b) If ten (10) or more horses declare, the race shall be conducted as Divisions.
All nomination fees will be split equally between divisions.
4. Races for 2 and 3-year-olds conducted on a one mile track the following shall apply:
(a) If ten (10) or less 3 year old horses declare the race shall be conducted as a final only. All declaration fees added to the final purse.
(b) If eleven (11) or more horses declare the race shall be conducted in elimination heats and a final; or divisions.
c) Two-year-olds will be limited to nine (9) horses. If ten (10) or more declare, the race will be split into Divisions with all declaration fees added and divided among the Divisions.
Purse shall be divided as follows:
i) 70% to the final
ii) 30% to be divided equally among the elimination heats.
5. For races split into elimination heats or divisions, horses coupled, as an entry must be seeded in separate elimination heats or divisions insofar as possible. Horse Racing Alberta Rule – Part 6 – Division #3 Rule #402.
6. In a race requiring one or more elimination heats, the final shall be limited to:
(a) Horses that have started in an elimination heat
(b) Horses declared to the final are the top 8 or 9 earners of money in the
elimination heats. The next-highest declared money-earners, in descending order, shall appear as also-eligible.
(c) In the event that eight (8) or nine (9) money earners are not declared to the final, declared non-money-earners shall be eligible.
(d) In the event of a tie for official placing in elimination heats or divisions the horses with the most elimination or division starts will have preference to the final. If they are still tied a draw by lot shall determine the starters and also-eligibles for the final.
7. All starters must be declared at or prior to the normal closing time stipulated in the condition sheets.
8. In two and three year old races comprising of divisions, purse distributions shall be subject to Horse Racing Alberta Racing Rules – Part 6 – Division #1 – Rule 367.
9. All finals, except where otherwise indicated in the preceding numbered conditions, shall be limited to eight (8) horses (5/8s mile or 11/16ths mile), or seven (7) horses (1/2 mile).
10. For Alberta Owned Classification please refer to HRA Rules & Guidelines page 103/104 Rule 351, 5A & 5B.

RULES: These events to be raced under the above conditions, which are subject to change with-out notice or any liability whatsoever and the Rules and Directives of Horse Racing Alberta. All stake races are subject to change of venue.

NOTE: Standardbred Canada/ASHA cannot accept inadequacies in the postal system
as an excuse for late or lost payments. It is therefore suggested that payments be made by registered mail, courier, or hand delivered to ensure safe delivery. Payments, if mailed, the P.O. Postmark on the envelope must clearly show that it was in fact, so mailed prior to midnight of the due date. (Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays accepted). ALL PAYMENTS ARE IN CANADIAN FUNDS.

FUTURE PAYMENTS: Standardbred Canada/Alberta Standardbred Horse Association,
as a courtesy, will make every effort to advise nominators of future sustaining payments but it is the responsibility of the owner of the eligible colt or filly to ensure that future sustaining payments are made whether or not a notice has been received.
Failure to make nomination payments when due constitutes automatic withdrawal from the applicable racing events.
