Learn About Racehorse Ownership

Published: September 20, 2017 11:59 am EDT

This Saturday (September 23) Mohawk Racetrack hosts a free New Owners Seminar with the focus on fractional horse ownership. The seminar takes place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Directors Lounge.

The seminar will feature presentations from ownership groups LandMark Racing Stables, thestable.ca and the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association (SBOA).

All three groups offer an affordable and easy way to become involved in owning a racehorse.

Anyone attending Saturday’s workshop will receive an entry* into the Win A Share in A Racehorse contest, sponsored by the Ontario Sires Stakes and presented in conjunction with the London Selected Yearling Sale on October 14 & 15. The contest winner will receive a share ($2,000 value) in LandMark 11 Stable which will include an Ontario-sired horse.

Mark McKelvie of the Woodbine Entertainment Group (WEG) will moderate the discussion and also open up the floor to allow potential new owners the opportunity to ask questions to any or all of the presenters.
Live racing begins that evening at 7:30 p.m. and features the $816,000 Metro Pace for two-year-old pacing colts as well as the $500,000 Shes A Great Lady for two-year-old pacing fillies. For more information about Saturday's card, check out the preview story here: "Metro, Shes A Great Lady Finals Set".

* -- Entry is available to any resident of Ontario, 18 years of age and over, who has never owned a Standardbred, or resided in the same household as someone who owned a Standardbred.

Contest is not open to employees or officials of Standardbred Canada, Ontario Racing, OLG, or any Ontario racetrack.
