Will Southfield Skye Remain Perfect?

Unbeaten two-year-old pacing filly Southfield Skye will be looking to extend her streak Thursday evening (August 20), as she is set to face off against Atlantic Sires Stakes competition at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park as part of Gold Cup and Saucer Week racing.

The 12-dash Thursday card has a 7 p.m. opening post time and will feature a trio of $9,540 Atlantic Sires Stakes 'A' divisions for the fledgling fillies. The divisions have been carded as Race 6, 8 and 10.

Southfield Skye is the morning line favourite in Race 10 for driver Adam Merner, trainer Glen MacKay Sr., and owner Southfield Farms Inc., of Summerside. She will face off with Post 7 starter Vicky Everyday (to be driven by Corey MacPherson) and Post 2 starter Woodmere Leah (Darren Crowe).

The Real McCoy is the morning line favourite in Race 6. The filly's trainer, Marc Campbell, will be the driver’s seat for owners Grayland Farm of Gulf Shore and Robert Sumarah of Halifax, NS. The Real McCoy's main two rivals were both victorious their last starts in sires stakes racing; those rivals are Post 3 starter Woodmere Stella (Gilles Barrieau) and Post 6 starter Aspoonfulofsugar (Dale Spence).

Little Miss Ava has been pegged as the one to beat in Race 8. Barrieau will again sit in the driver’s seat in the absence of regular pilot Myles Heffernan Sr. Little Miss Ava is owned by Jackie Heffernan of Summerville and trainer Myles Heffernan Jr. The Hilarious Halo lass scored a two-length victory in the Callbeck stake last week off a two-hole ride with Barrieau in the bike. Her chief rivals on Thursday are JJ Talisa (Redmond Doucet) off the rail and Maggiesdelight (MacPherson) from the outside Post 7.

The Joey & Dee Arsenault Memorial has been carded as Race 5, and Souverain is the early favourite. Brodie MacPhee will be in the bike for Phil Sizer of Kensington.

Cougar Gal is the morning line pick in the Ramblinglily Memorial pace (Race 3) for the late great pacing mare. Marc Campbell will drive Cougar Gal for trainer Neil Bambrick of Charlottetown.

The Apps and Etta Arsenault Memorial has been carded as Race 7, and Lean On Who (Barrieau) is the top choice in her second PEI start for trainer Ron Matheson.

The $3,000 Monctonian Pace will line up for Race 9. Union Man Hanover has gotten the respect of the classifier, and has been installed as the 5-2 choice. Barrieau will be driving for Bob MacNeil of Saint John, NB.

JK Express will look for another victory off the rail in the Joe & Wal Hennessey Memorial Pace (Race 11). Jason Hughes trains and drives JK Express, who is by Western Paradise.
