Tony DeCourcey Passes

The family of Joseph Anthony 'Tony' DeCourcey, husband of Freda A. (Livingston) DeCourcey, sadly announces his death at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born at Sussex, January 9, 1949, the son of the late J. Stanley and Josephine DeCourcey. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with the Provincial Government as an Addiction Councillor. Tony has a long history and was very involved with the Fredericton Racetrack. He was Past President of the Fredericton Exhibition Ltd. Tony served on most harness racing organizations in the Maritimes as a representative for New Brunswick, including the Atlantic Standardbred Breeders Association and the Maritime Provincial Harness Racing Commission. He was inducted into the Fredericton Racetrack Hall of Fame in 2012. He was also the driving force behind the TADD program (Teens Against Drunk Drivers) at Fredericton High School.

He is survived by two sons, Stefan (Megan), Colin (Melanie); daughter Dareth; granddaughter Myleigh, all of Fredericton; two brothers Cyril (Suann) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Harold (Dawn) of Fredericton; three sisters Sharron Doyle (Rick) of Perth, Ont., Zeta DeCourcey-Baxter (Fred), Zona Bovingdon (Ted) both of Fredericton; sister-in-law Faye Livingston of Saint John; chosen sisters Dorothy Keays of Halifax, NS, Carolyn Parent (Herb) of Burton, NB; chosen brother Robert Tucker of Alberta; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three infant sisters Anne Marie, Mary Elizabeth and twin sister Josephine Anne.

Visitation will be held at Bishop’s Funeral Home 540 Woodstock Road Fredericton on Thursday July 11, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A celebration of Life will be held at Holy Family Church, Hanwell Road, Fredericton on Friday July 12, 2013 at 12:00 noon.

Donations to the Maritime Provincial Harness Racing Commission Stretch Drive Fund, the Palliative Care Unit at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be made at www.bishopsfuneralhome.com.
