Trot Insider has learned that Doug Campbell, a well known nutrition expert that has helped serve the racing industry for roughly 35 years, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 25 at the age of 66.

Campbell, a resident of Rockwood, Ont., most recently worked in sales and technical support for Equine Choice Probiotics.

Campbell, who loved the outdoors, worked with dealers and customer across Ontario and Canada in all disciplines of the horse industry – Standardbred, Thoroughbred, Western horses, Hunter Jumpers, Draft horses, ponies, recreational horses, etc.

He was often heard saying, “Let’s get back to the basics of the digestive system of the horse. If it works for the horse, it works for the owner, the feed dealer and everyone involved, but it has to work for the horse.”

A Celebration of Life will be held for Campbell on Wednesday, August 5 at 3:30 p.m. at the Oelbaum Farm, located at 5028 4th Line (Wellington Road 44) in Eramosa.

In terms of the exact location, Trot Insider has been told that there will likely be some kind of sign at the end of the lane to help identify the place. It is approximately one mile north of the stop sign on the Guelph Line before they go down the ‘S’ shaped hill. There is a flashing light almost opposite the lane entrance. There will be parking on the property.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Doug Campbell.
