Officials with Yonkers Raceway have announced the track’s latest purse increase, which will be effective on the track’s Monday, July 6 card of live racing.

A release from the track states that purses have been hiked substantially for nearly every class. The increase now brings the three weekly Opens/Open Handicaps (Trot, Pace, Filly and Mare Pace) to $48,000 (from the present $42,000), while the popular Open Handicap for four-year-olds pacers will now carry a purse of $35,000 (up from $25,000).

Young horses will also benefit, as in non-winners of two pari-mutuels or $20,000 (purse now $20,000, up from $15,000), non-winners of four ‘PM’s or $40,000 (purse now $25,000, up from $17,000) and non-winners of six PMs or $60,000 (purse now $30,000, up from $20,500).

Only the $12,500 and $20,000 claimers remain at their present purse levels.

“We are pleased to again offer a pure increase,” Yonkers’ VP and COO Bob Galterio said. “It continues our commitment to presenting the finest harness product possible, and we encourage all horsemen and fans to see for themselves.

“We understand that there are any number of tracks currently open, but between the increased overnight purses and our tremendous stakes program, Yonkers remains unquestionably the best place to race.”
