George Boswall Passes

Longtime Prince Edward Island horse owner George Boswall has passed away at age 93.

Boswall was the 2012 honouree at the P.E.I. Standardbred Horse Owners Association Awards Banquet in recognition of his decades of ownership and his enthusiasm for harness racing. Until recently, he was a daily visitor to the Charlottetown Driving Park, who enjoyed jogging his own horses.

Thirty years ago he bought his first horse, Cracklin Meg, and has been an active breeder and owner ever since. Among the horses he bred and or owned were GL Emma, GL Megan, GL Columbo Pedro, Jorg, Rebas Chance, and Rustico Triblaze. At the time of his passing he shared ownership in horses in training at the CDP with his good friend Peter Buchanan.

A lifelong Dairy farmer, Boswall was a member of the Atlantic Agricultural Hall of Fame in recognition for his success in breeding and exhibiting purebred Ayrshire cattle.

Boswall was the father of Norman (Anne), Kathleen McCaffrey, Jean Foster (Herb), James (Diane), Helen Verhulp (Robert), Guy (Margie) and Marjorie Biggar (Brent). Lovingly remembered by his 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Brother of Graeme Boswall (Alberta). Brother-in-law of Jean Johnston, William Johnston and Charlotte Johnston.

Predeceased by his wife, Laura M. (Johnston) Boswall; by his parents, George L. and Matilda (Wyatt) Boswall; and by his sister, Robertena "Bobbie" Boswall.

Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home for visitation Saturday 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral Sunday from York United Church at 1:30 p.m. Interment in Marshfield Community Cemetery.
