William Pillsbury Passes

William F. Pillsbury, 85, passed away at home on April 13.

Pillsbury was born Jan. 19, 1929, in Pepperell, Mass., the son of Leo A. and Catherine McGrath Pillsbury. He served in the Air Force from 1947 to 1950.

Pillsbury was a union carpenter. He worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Corrections as a maintenance supervisor for 20 years. He was also on the Pepperell Fire Department.

Pillsbury belonged to the Littleton-Westford Elks, Lodge 1891. In 1982, he was selected as Elk of the Year.

He was a successful Standardbred owner, trainer and driver and belonged to the USTA.

He is survived by his wife, Carroll J. Tiernan; children, Pamela Jean (Dan) Murphy, William F. Jr., Helen M. (Bob) Aliot and Kevin P.; stepson, Gerry (Genevieve) Tiernan; grandchildren, Dan Murphy, Jessica Murphy, Nicholas Drew, Leah Bozza, Patricia, Adam, Alison, Jack Tiernan and Stella Tiernan; seven great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews; brother, James; sister, Gertrude (Frank) Hartnett; and good friends, Don Chapman, Stanley and Barbara Libby. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley M.; parents; brothers, Leo and Edward; and sisters, Marion Morrissey and Mildred Robbins.

Visiting hours will be held at Marchand Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Pepperell, Mass., on Tuesday (April 22) from 4-7 p.m. A memorial service will be at the Marchand Funeral Home on Wednesday (April 23) at 10 a.m., followed by burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Pepperell.

Arrangements in Maine are under the guidance of Hobbs Funeral Home, Scarborough.
