Dr. Don Pooley Passes

After a courageous struggle with cancer, horse owner and respected equine veterinarian Dr. Don Pooley passed away peacefully on Sunday December 23, 2012 with his family at his side in Woodstock, Ont.

"Dr. Don" was especially known for his care, compassion and expertise as an equine veterinarian in Oxford County, Pooley was involved with harness racing for many years both as a vet and an owner. He was also the past president of The Ontario Association of Equine Practitioners.

Beloved husband and partner for 40 years of Pam (nee Aspden). Cherished Dad to Sarah Harmer (Ryan) and Chris Pooley. Proud Papa to Hayden, Claire and Gage Harmer. Dear brother to Gary Pooley (Karen) of Waterloo. He will be greatly missed by his in-laws, Jim and Clara Aspden, Lynda Packer, Randy and Ada Aspden, Diane VanMeer and Scotty Robertson, and many loved nephews and nieces. He is also survived by a dear Aunt and many cousins in Nova Scotia, where his passion for fishing began. Predeceased by his parents Reg (Maunsell) and Jean Pooley.

The family wishes to sincerely thank the nurses and doctors at University Hospital, London, particularly all the wonderful nurses and staff in the transplant unit; the caring palliative team at Woodstock Hospital, and the amazing caregivers at Sakura House.

A private family service has taken place. Friends, colleagues and clients are invited to celebrate Don's life at Craigowan Golf and Country Club, 595838 Hwy 59 N, on January 20th, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m..
