Shirley Otto Passes

Standardbred owner Shirley L. Otto, 79, of Jefferson, Ohio, passed away on October 16 at her residence surrounded by her loving family following an extended illness.

She was born October 27, 1934, in Williamsfield Township, the daughter of Ralph and Arlene (Fink) Daniels and had been a resident of the area all of her life.

Shirley was a former employee of Jefferson Manufacturing and was affiliated with the Andover United Methodist Church.

She owned many Standardbreds over the years and was a member of different horse racing associations – the USTA, OHHA and ISA. She enjoyed watching the live race telecasts on her computer and was a fan of Roger Huston, the race caller at the Meadows.

She enjoyed gardening and bird watching and was an excellent seamstress and cook. Her ultimate enjoyment was her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by her husband, James R. Otto, whom she married on April 13, 1951 in Andover; children, Carlie S. (J. J. Guardado), Ronald W., LuAnn and Linda K. (Gerald) Licate; grandchildren, Jamie (Kevin) Torres, Michael, Lisa (Carl) Knapp, Gerald (Jennifer Kitson) Licate and Gennifer (John) Dzura; great-grandchildren, Sophia, Shelby, Natalie, Amber, Sophia and Gabriella; great-great-grandchildren, Degabriel and Matthew; sisters, Frances White and Sherie Daniels; and a special dear friend, Linda Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Gary; brother, James Daniels; and sisters, Marlene Rayl and Janet Burns.
