The Woodbine Entertainment Group is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious ‘Platinum Award’ by the Recycling Council of Ontario (RCO) and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment.

The award was presented at the recent RCO Awards Gala in recognition of Canada’s Waste Reduction Week. This is WEG’s third Platinum Award and the sixth consecutive year that the corporation has been crowned a waste reduction champion in the highly competitive Industrial, Commercial & Institutional (IC&I) category.

“WEG launched its ‘Zero Waste to Landfill’ program two years ago to ensure continuous improvement in reducing our environmental footprint,” said Sean Pinsonneault, WEG’s chief operating officer. “This award would not be possible without the cooperation and collective will of our customers, employees, horse people and Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG)” a major tenant at WEG’s Woodbine and Mohawk sites.

The Platinum Award recognizes leadership, innovation and excellence in waste reduction and diversion. Award winners are measured according to their achievements in reducing the waste they generate and the diversion from disposal to recycling. Each is rigorously scored on their ability to prevent waste through consumption and purchasing habits, their success in sorting and tracking generated materials to recycling and minimizing the amount that goes to the landfill.

WEG’s focus has been to reduce, reuse, and recycle; increase stakeholder environmental awareness and understanding, and improve its on-site source separation process. Waste reduction is only one component of WEG’s overall Corporate Sustainability Program.
