The end of January is known for being cold on Prince Edward Island, but this Saturday afternoon (January 28) the action promises to be red hot at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park.

First-race post time for the 13-dash program will be 12:30 p.m. The card will signal the end of the winter meet at the capital oval. Live action is scheduled to return to Charlottetown on April 22.

Adkins Hanover leads the way into the Race 13 ‘Greenhawk Charlottetown’ featured event for driver Corey MacPherson, trainer Ambyr Campbell and owner Perry Burke of Quebec. The pacer was scheduled to make his Island debut in last week’s featured event, but a ‘no contest’ in that race pushed back his first true chance at victory since relocating from Ontario. Adkins Hanover will start from Post 7 in the $2,300 event and will face off with the red-hot Forever Paradise from Post 6 with ‘Magic’ Mike McGuigan in the bike.

Other feature entries include Mcjestic (to be driven by Jason Hughes), Rash B Havior (Marc Campbell), Smiley Bayama (Adam Merner), Pictonian Storm (Gary Chappell) and DBs Rosco (Kenny Arsenault).

Arsenault leads the way among drivers in this early point of the Charlottetown season with seven wins and is tied for first among trainers with Ron Gass at five victories each. Top Arsenault trainee Frill Seeker has drawn Post 6 in the Race 4 Open Trot, but will hand the reins to American driver Brian Blanchard. The native of Maine is studying at the Atlantic Veterinary College and will handle Frill Seeker in the $1,700 event while Arsenault drives stablemate Howmacs Pride from Post 5. The field will also feature Glencove Zani (Ken Murphy), I Aint No Lady (Brian MacPhee), Parkhill Juggernaut (Ambyr Campbell) and Holy Molie Maggie (Corey MacPherson).

Race 11 will feature a newcomer to Charlottetown in Earlymorninarrival, who will start from Post 7 for trainer Ralph Sweet of O’Leary and driver Marc Campbell. The 10-year-old son of The Panderosa had been racing at Rideau Carleton Raceway in Ontario for trainer Gerard Demers.

‘Get Your Fun On Track’ promotions include the Play 4, Super Pack, Pick 5 and Wild Horses ticket tag. Tag your ticket for a chance to win $50 jackpots on every race with the final race of the season at $100. ‘Second Chance Draws’ will also give customers an opportunity to win some prizes from Red Shores and other entertainment properties.
