Island Jazzystar wasn’t the first horse to cross the finish line in Saturday’s feature race at Red Shores Racetrack at the Charlottetown Driving Park, but he still managed to take home the win for trainer/driver Corey MacPherson

. The pacer’s number gravitated from second to first as a result of Yankee Sun being placed back to third for a violation of the racing rules.

Tanks Alot set early fractions of :28.1 and :58.2 before giving way to Island Jazzystar. That five-year-old son of Force Of Life opened up a five-length lead at the three-quarter pole in 1:28.1, but was picked off in the closing strides by Yankee Sun and driver Kenny Arsenault. Pans O Silver rounded out the top three.

Yankee Sun’s number didn’t stay on top for long, however, as a result of causing interference to Pans O Silver and driver Brian MacPhee at the half. Yankee Sun was set back to third, Island Jazzystar was awarded the win and Pans O Silver moved up from third to second.

Sent off at odds of 8-1 in the six-horse affair, Island Jazzystar notched his first win of the 2010 campaign for owner Mitchell Tierney of Cornwall, PE. It was the pacer’s 16th lifetime tally, and the lion’s share of the purse bumped his overall earnings to $43,679.
