An accident occurred on Friday night during the eighth race at Fraser Downs resulting in a No Contest being declared.
In the first quarter of the race, the ten-year-old gelding Johnny Jojo (Scott Knight) broke stride causing interference with Yeah Norton driven by Grant Hollingsworth and Highway Man driven by Jim Marino.
The accident delayed the following races, including the featured $17,000 Open Pace where Classy Character posted a 1:53.1 wire-to-wire scored with Tim Brown in the bike.
Trained by Amber Lancaster, the six-year-old Shady Character gelding left from Post 7. He lead the field to the first quarter pole in :26.2 before facing a challenge by Stonebridge Camelot (Billy David, Jr.) as they headed to the half-mile marker in :54.4.
Classy Character paced on through the third quarter in 1:23.1 before facing yet another challenger in the stretch. Warrawee Iceman (Darren Howald) closed hard, but Classy Character held on for the win by half a length. KG Warrior (Scott Knight) rounded out the top three.
The victory was her ninth of the season, increasing her lifetime earnings to $189,083. Classy Character is owned by Sandra Brown of Langley and Jack Thompson of Burnaby, B.C.
In other action, trainer Bill Davis steered three of his pupils to victory beginning in race two with Upbid Hanover (2:01). He was also tiumphant with Hi Time Ascot (1:54.4) in race four and in race nine with Silk Puddles (1:55.4).
The Langley, British Columbia resident currently has 2,837 lifetime wins, 90 of which are from this season.
