Preferred Upset For Stonebridge Wish

After finishing sixth in his most recent performance at the Preferred level at Rideau Carleton Raceway, a number of handicappers dismissed Stonebridge Wish as a win threat in Thursday’s edition of the top class. That turned out to be a grave error.

The nine-year-old son of Camluck-Star Crusher took offense to the pari-mutuel snub by rallying to a narrow score in 1:52.4 in Thursday’s $12,000 tilt for Team Allard.

Driver Simon Allard mapped out a perfect, two-hole trip for Stonebridge Wish behind Chasin Racin, who hammered out panels of :27.1, :56.3 and 1:24.1. That leader, who was pressed in the final half by Outrageous Art, was overtaken in the closing strides by Stonebridge Wish who used a :28.1 closing quarter to produced the quarter of a length decision over Chasin Racin. Third prize went to race favourite Peenie.

Colin Johnson trains the gelding, who was sent off at odds of 6-1, for the 9174 7998 Quebec Inc of Blainville, QC. The victory, which was his ninth of the year and the 31st of his career, helped bump his overall bankroll to $437,355.
