Southside Eddy delivered a special win on Saturday, Sept. 2 at Woodbine Mohawk Park, lifting trainer Carmen Auciello to the 2,000-win plateau.
Sylvain Filion guided the four-year-old Betterthancheddar horse to victory in the evening's second race, a wire-to-wire score in 1:49 to establish a new career mark and provide Auciello with the milestone win.
Auciello was recognized by Woodbine Mohawk Park with a special poster presentation to commemorate the achievement.
Now in his 20th year as a trainer, Auciello has conditioned horses to more than $32 million in earnings over his productive career. For the last 12 seasons, his stable has surpassed the $1 million mark in earnings with the 2019 season providing personal bests in wins (191) and earnings ($3.6 million).
The Stouffville, Ont. resident is perennially among the nation's top trainers in both wins and earnings, and his current campaign is no exception as he sits second among all trainers in earnings on Canadian soil ($1,611,820) and seventh in wins (71).
