Daley Likes Gym Tan Laundry

Some people end up scratching their head when they hear the phrase 'gym, tan, laundry.' Others just simply respond with a hard and long roll of the eyes. But when you ask Noel Daley about Gym Tan Laundry, all that comes to mind is horse racing and potential

.

People that pay attention to more than monitors and simulcasts may be aware that 'gym, tan, laundry' is just one of the common phrases referred to on MTV's uber-popular reality series 'Jersey Shore.' The show, a risque smash-hit worldwide, follows an assembled group of 20-something-year-old party animals through the peaks and valleys of their personal, social and clubbing lives. Gym, tan, laundry, or 'GTL' for short, is one of the mantras characters on the show live by.

While in discussion with Trot Insider, Daley admitted that he was part of the head-scratching crew when a two-year-old son of Yankee Glide by the name of Gym Tan Laundry shipped into his barn.

"I had no idea what his name was all about when he came to me," said Daley, a resident of New Jersey. "I had never seen the show, so I just didn't get it --- it just sounded like a ridiculous name. Someone had to explain it to me."

With this being late September, Gym Tan Laundry's juvenile campaign is coming to a close sooner than later. The now-gelded $35,000 yearling purchase has just three pari-mutuel starts under his belt, albeit two wins and a very close second-place finish.

The gelding will be looking to add another win to his resume on Friday, September 30 at the Red Mile. He has drawn Post 7 in an eight-horse division of the Bluegrass Stakes. Brian Sears will be at Gym Tan Laundry's controls and the duo has been gauged at odds of 10-1 on the morning line.

"We had setbacks with him this year," Daley explained to Trot Insider. "I had to geld him earlier in the year and then he colicked on us. Because of that, we were behind with him a little bit."

Despite the fact that GTL holds a mark of 1:58.2 taken over the Red Mile earlier this month, Daley explained that there is nothing but upside for the gelding owned by the Adam Victor and Son Stable.

"He's a decent-enough animal and the potential is there with him," Daley said. "I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up catching up with the rest of the better two-year-olds before long."

At the end of the day, a chuckling Daley told Trot Insider that he has had some interesting encounters with people in regard to the horse --- not Snooki-at-the-club interesting, or The-Situation-giving-himself-a-concussion interesting, but interesting nonetheless.

"People are either coming up to me and asking what the deal is with the name, or else they ask me about the horse with a smile on their face. Some people have some pretty funny things to say about it, actually."
