GD Airliner survived a rugged trip to win Thursday’s featured $12,000 Preferred at Rideau Carleton Raceway, and in doing so he pushed his winning streak to two in a row for Team Allard.

The four-year-old son of Panspacificflight-Mackenzie Beth, who got away sixth in the nine-horse affair, watched D Gs Woodstock, Montreal Phil and Peenie battle past the quarter pole in :27.1. Montreal Phil eventually worked his way to the lead, and he took the field by the mid-way point in :56.3. GD Airliner got underway at the half, and he was just a nose behind Montreal Phil at the three-quarter marker in 1:25.2. A :28.3 closing panel was enough to earn GD Airliner the half-length score over Peenie in 1:54, with Beach Runner A M taking home the third prize.

Rene Allard trains the gelding for owner Howard Taylor of Philadelphia, PA. The win was the pacer’s 20th lifetime score, and the lion’s share of the purse helped him boost his bank account to $276,686.
