Custard Lite Elora's Leading Lady

Following her runner-up finish last week, Custard Lite ($5.30) found plenty more in Wednesday's (Sept. 23) featured $10,000 Preferred 2 distaff pace at Grand River Raceway and delivered a 1:53.4 drubbing to her six foes.

The five-year-old daughter of Custard The Dragon took her time early on, yielding to fourth from the pole while Larjon Legacy (Travis Cullen) drilled a :27.2 first quarter. With five-eighths to go, trainer-driver Paul Davies angled Custard Light to the outside, and they steadily encroached on Larjon Legacy through middle splits of :57 and 1:25.1 before seizing control on approach to the final turn.

After putting Larjon Legacy away, Custard Lite sprinted off boldly in upper stretch, putting 5-3/4 lengths of clearance between herself and the late-rallying Charmbo Brie (Paul MacKenzie), who circled three-wide on the home turn to claim runner-up honours. Lively Rocket (Jason Ryan) lifted from last to narrowly edge out the tiring Larjon Legacy for third.

Davies shares ownership of 21-time winner Custard Lite with Paul Sanders.
