Whitecaps' Pres. On Fraser Downs Situation

Last Friday it was reported that discussions have taken place in regard to Fraser Downs being converted to a training facility for Major League Soccer's Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Now, team president Bob Lenarduzzi has commented

on the situation.

"We have talked about it," an article by The Province has quoted him as saying, "but we've also talked to other municipalities. We're a long way from doing anything."

The report also explains that a deal to develop a national soccer development centre fell apart in late January.

There has been much speculation in recent weeks that the province's horse racing industry will merge its live thoroughbred and standardbred cards at Hastings Park.

The initial report of the possible transformation of Fraser Downs explained that the province has $17 million in available funds to create the soccer training facility, which is also said to be able to act as a training centre for international soccer.
