The Little Brown Jug Society elected four new members during the annual fall meeting this morning (Tuesday, September 20) at Hoggy’s Restaurant
.
The newly elected directors are Roger Huston, George Teague, Jr., Rex Welker and Jay Wolf.
Huston, a native of Xenia, Ohio, is a Hall of Fame announcer who has called the Little Brown Jug since 1967. He began his career on the Ohio county fair circuit and has been the main announcer at the Red Mile, Pompano Park, the Meadows and Tioga Downs. Huston was also elected to the Little Brown Jug Wall of Fame in 2000.
Teague is one of harness racing’s leading trainers with 1,339 career victories and purse winnings of $30,599,966. He has two starters in Thursday’s 66th Little Brown Jug. Custard The Dragon will start in the first elimination with George’s son Montrell Teague in the sulky. Wink N Atcha will race in the second elimination.
Rex Welker replaces his late father, Franklin Walker, on the LBJ Society board of directors. Franklin, who died in February, served 25 years. Welker owns Welker Photography in Delaware and is a past president of the Delaware Rotary Club. He is also an ardent supporter of Delaware Hayes High School athletics.
Wolf, VP of Marketing for The Delaware County Bank and Trust Company, is also the assistant publicity director for the Delaware County Fair. Jay’s father, John D. Wolf, was a member of the Jug Society board of directors prior to his death in 1988.
The new Jug Society directors replace three members who died in 2011, Franklin Welker, Charlie Bowen and Jack Chester. Jules Siegel recently resigned.
