Pondside Thunder Romps To Record Win

Sophomore pacer Pondside Thunder left his rivals in the dust as he romped to a 35 length track record victory in Sunday's lone $2,250 fair division of the Atlantic Sires Stakes, which combined two and three-year-olds into a five-horse affair, at St. John's Racing and Entertainment Centre.

Pondside Thunder was assigned the outside post five with fellow sophomore pacer and eventual runner-up House Of Stuart to his inside along with their three younger foes, but that proved to be no handicap for the William Taylor trainee, who stopped the clock in 2:01 to lower his own sophomore track record by more than one full second.

Scott MacRoberts drove the Force Of Life gelding to his second win of the season in eight outings. Clifford Garland of Carbonear, Nfld. owns the bay pacer.

MacRoberts also scored with his own trainee Jig Time and Preferred winner U S Charmeleon for conditioner Kevin McDonald.

Driver Shane Forward and trainer Scott Forward teamed up to win four of Sunday's nine races.
