Wings Of Royalty Ties Plainridge Record

It was déjà vu all over again for Wings Of Royalty who followed the same script he did three weeks ago; going wire to wire to win the $15,000 Open Handicap trot at Plainridge Park and doing it in track record time.

It was all Wings Of Royalty (Shawn Gray) from start to finish. Gray rushed him out to the lead and then set fast fractions of :26.4, :55.4 and 1:24.3 by almost two lengths before rounding the far turn and trotting home alone in :28.4 to win in 1:53.2.

The winning time ties the track record for aged trotting horses that he set on August 23.

The Massachusetts-bred Wings Of Royalty ($3.00) has now won his fifth straight race in a row (three of which were at Plainridge) and sixth of the year for owner Ray Campbell, Jr. George Ducharme is the trainer.

Driver Shawn Gray had the hot hand on Monday winning four races on the card. Besides Wings Of Royalty, he got across with Stingy (1:59, $4.40), Storyofmylife (1:55.4, $2.80) and Secret Delight (1:55.2, $6.80).

The Wicked Hi-5 Pentafecta pool continues to grow with no winner again on Monday. So Tuesday there will be a carryover of $10,380 available in the Wicked Hi-5 wager in the sixth race. Post time for the first race in 2 p.m.
