It has been announced that William C. Carstanjen is the new chief executive officer at Churchill Downs Inc., effective immediately.

A report by sunherald.com explains that Carstanjen had been Churchill’s president and COO since 2011. He is replacing former CEO Robert L. Evans, who will retain his position as the chairman of the organization’s board of directors.

William E. Mudd, Chuchill’s chief financial officer, will retain his position, but has also been named president of the organization.

"I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to lead Churchill Downs," Carstanjen has been quoted as saying in the sunherald.com piece. "Over the last several years we have transformed Churchill Downs into a diversified growth company while continuing to strengthen and invest in our traditional horse racing business.”

Carstanjen went on to say, “Today, CDI is better positioned strategically and operationally, and is stronger financially and organizationally, than perhaps at any time in its 140-year history. I'm excited about our terrific team and the future of our racing, gaming and online businesses and new businesses we may yet enter."
