Maple Leaf Spirit Still Undefeated

The winning streak is now six-in-a-row and counting for Maple Leaf Spirit, who showed no mercy to the competition in her $5,280 division of the A.T.S.S. for

two-year-old trotters on Tuesday afternoon at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Maple Leaf Spirit charged to the lead as soon as the gate sped away, and once she made the lead it was game over. Trainer/driver Ralph Annear, who bred and co-owns the daughter of Meadowagogo-Maple Leaf Legacy with Steven Sorrie of Sturgeon, PEI, led the field through panels of :32, 1:04.2 and 1:37 before stopping the clock in 2:08.3. The margin of victory was nine lengths over runner-up Miss Louhannaride. Dusty Lane Tilly was third.

Maple Leaf Spirit has stashed away $17,388 to date.

The other two $5,280 divisions for the two-year-olds went to Red Lobster (2:10.2) and Rustico Myjo (2:05.2).

The matinee portion of Tuesday’s doubleheader also featured a quartet of $4,500 divisions of the A.T.S.S. for three-year-old trotters, with Scarlet Patti extending her winning streak to three-in-a-row and improving her 2010 record to 5-0-1 in six tries for trainer/driver Darryl MacLean. The PJs Nabby-Scarlet Nite miss brushed to the lead at the three-quarter pole and drew clear to win by 2-3/4 lengths in a career-best clocking of 2:01.3. Southfield Sam was next best and Porter rounded out the top three.

Gordon MacLean of Winsloe, PEI holds the ownership papers on the 16-time winner, who upped her lifetime earnings to $47,229 with the win.

The other divisions went to Kims PJs (2:02.2), B J Eldorado (2:03) and Miss Toria Ridge (2:06).
