Dead Heat In Trial Three

The photo finish camera was put to work on Monday evening at the Charlottetown Driving Park in Trial Three for this year’s Gold Cup & Saucer, but after careful examination the Judges couldn’t separate Secret Weapons and

All The Weapons.

The pacers served up late rallies in the lane and hit the line together, producing a dead-heat for the top spot in the $12,500 affair.

Royal Becquet shot to early command and laid down early panels of :27.2 and :57.4. He came under pressure in the third quarter and relinquished the lead to Secret Weapon and driver Mark MacDonald. After clearing to the top he motored by the three-quarter pole in 1:26.2 with All The Weapons and driver Brad Forward in hot pursuit from first-over.

Those two pulled away from Royal Becquet in the closing strides, and nothing could separate them at the finish line in a time of 1:53.4. Royal Becquet was just over a length back in third.

Secret Weapon, who hangs his harness bag in the barn of trainer Wayne Preszcator, is owned by Barbara Lehman, Robert Patterson and James Lehman. The seven-year-old son of Western Hanover-Falcons Secret posted his third win of the season and the 24th in his career. He went over $300,000 in career earnings in the process.

All The Weapons, a Kenny Oliver-trained seven-year-old son of Towners Big Guy-Jens Jet, notched his fourth win of the season and the 15th of his career. He has banked close to $60,000 this season and more than $200,000 in his career.

The top three finishers from Trial Three will join Trial One winner, Silent Swing, and Trial Two winner, Along Came Polly, along with the second and third-place finishers from those two Trials in Saturday’s 50th edition of the $60,000 Gold Cup & Saucer at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
