Maryland Standardbred Fund action returned to Ocean Downs on Thursday night (August 9), featuring three-year-olds of both sexes and gaits.
In the highly anticipated colt and gelding trot, Googoo Gaagaa (Cams Rocket–Koras Trotter) did not disappoint the cheering crowd.
Leaving the gate from post four, Googoo Gaagaa went right to the front and took control with fractions of :29.2, 1:00.1 and 1:29.2 before stopping the clock in 1:57.4, a stakes and track record for his age and gait.
Windshield came first over past the half but was still 6-3/4 lengths back at the wire.
Corey Callahan was the in the bike for owner-trainer Richard Hans.
The night started with a non-wagering event for colt and gelding pacers. In this first division Its Outta Here (Three Olives-Galaxy Girl) sat in the pocket until the head of the stretch before catching Hotspeed at the wire in 1:56.3. Greg Simendinger co-owns with trainer Eli Scott Jr. and Ross Wolfenden was the reinsman.
The second division of colt and gelding pacers went to Flying Instructor (Badlands Hanover-Daylon Flyer). Quik Groom controlled the early fractions but was unable to hold off Flying Instructor. Corey Callahan did the driving for owners Legacy Racing of DE, Nanticoke Racing, Niel Gargiulo and Louie Paglierani. Time for the mile was 1:54.4.
Driver Tony Morgan took Prosperity (Revenue S-Panarail) right to the front and never looked back in 1:59.2 in the race for trotting fillies. Prosperity is owned by William E. Miller II and trained by John Roach.
Jim Morand made his only drive of the night a winner with Oh Amanda (Metropolitan-Suspense) for owners Nanticoke Racing and trainer Les Givens in the race for pacing fillies. Oh Amanda paced her mile in 1:58.3.
Maryland Sire Stakes return on August 15 and 16.
