The tandem of driver Jason Brewer and trainer Anette Lorentzon has been almost unstoppable in recent weeks at Mohawk Racetrack, and handicappers who jumped on played that angle had a chance to make a tidy profit on Gisela AS in the $50,000 final of the In Free Stakes

.

The two-year-old daughter of Infinitif-Golden Door Lindy, who won her elimination in 2:01 one week ago, rallied from well out of Monday’s assignment to win by a neck in 1:58.2.

Brewer tucked into an early six-hole with Gisela AS while Idonette trotted past the quarter pole in :29.2. Bavarde rushed to the lead as the field moved into the backstretch, but she gave way to race favourite Its All Magic at the half in :59.4. Its All Magic was still in command at the three-quarter pole in 1:29.3, but Princess Fortune was applying first over pressure and Gisela AS was riding cover from second over.

Gisela AS flipped over cover coming into the stretch, and she used a :28.1 closing panel to get up in the final strides for the narrow tally over Princess Fortune. Bavarde re-emerged to finish third, while Its All Magic faded to finish fourth.

"She has been a good filly all winter," said trainer Anette Lorentzon. "She's not very big, but she's got some fight in her and a terrific attitude. When she was second-over around the final turn, I thought we had a good shot. With these young horses, you never know what can happen, but she was put in a good spot and she trotted home well."

Sent off at odds of 4-1, Gisela AS won for the second time in three tries for owner/breeder ACL Stuteri AB of Paris, KY. The lion’s share of the purse lifted the rookie’s earnings to $35,325.
