At nine, the oldest pacer in the field, the venerable Mypanmar showed that he still has plenty of spring in his step as he captured Friday’s $22,500 Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows in front-end fashion

.

Entering the race off two victories in his last three starts, Mypanmar rolled to the lead for Dave Palone and held off the late charge of Valentowner to down that rival by a neck in 1:51.2. Baccarat Stena shot the Lightning Lane for show. It was one of three wins on the 13-race card for Palone.

Virgil Morgan, Jr. trains Mypanmar, a son of The Panderosa-Road To Pandalay who extended his career bankroll to $1,471,375, for the Peter Pan Stables of Pepper Pike, Ohio.

In the card’s sub-feature, a Winners Over $10,000 Lifetime Pace, Drumfire A provided the day’s shocker when he scored from Post 9 at 73-1 and returned $185.60 across the board. Mike Wilder drove for trainer Randy Bendis, who owns the seven-year-old Aces N Sevens-Kit Star gelding with Ohio residents Jack Piatt II and R. Lewis Hauber.
