Trainer Jim Ainsworth sent out a trio of winners on Sunday afternoon at Clinton Raceway, and he saved the
best for the last.
Ainsworth watched Miz Grizz, a two-year-old Grinfromeartoear-Bigamiz filly who captured the first race, and Josephine Colleen, a three-year-old daughter of Camotion-Flashy X Ample who triumphed in the fourth race, get the ball rolling for the barn.
He finished up with a bang thanks to a 1:55.4 track record-setting performance with Quiteasassybanana in the $64,000 final of the Kin Pace. The three-year-old homebred daughter of Grinfromeartoear-Nadine Seelster, who is owned by Ross Holmes of Ilderton, ON, overcame early interference to win the rich final by narrow margin.
An early break by Quality Goods forced driver Bruce Richardson into escape mode with Quiteasassybanana, who looped the breaker and marched to the lead. She front-stepped her way through panels of :28.1, :57.2 and 1:26.4 before finishing off her seven foes with a 29-second final frame. Coming Late lived up to her name, but she fell a half-length short of the winner. Star Of Show, one of three starters in the field sent out by trainer Mark Steacy, rounded out the top three.
It was the fifth consecutive victory for the filly, who owns a 6-1-0 record in just nine starts this season. Despite failing to hit the board in her two starts as a rookie, Quiteasassybanana has banked close to $98,000 this season.
Ainsworth wasn’t the only trainer to triple up on Sunday afternoon’s 13-race program – so did conditioner Dan Creighton. His winners were Isabo (2:00.3), Thatll Be Hot (2:00.2) and the war horse, Eldorado Max (2:03).
Pantecostal took home top prize in the $10,000 Kin Pace consolation for the Horner brothers – trainer Mark and driver Mike. The three-year-old daughter of No Pan Intended-Panipulator, who enjoyed a pocket trip behind Joint Effort through panels of :29, :58.2 and 1:27.3, used a :29.1 final quarter rally to post the nose decision over Joint Effort. Wild West Angel rounded out the top three.
Mary Dolmage, Stephanie Horner and Sure Gain Stable share ownership on the grey filly, who won for the third time in 10 season starts after going just 1-for-8 as a rookie. She has banked $57,209 to date.
